Current Status of Voting by Mail
Dakota absentee voters may have concerns about the president's executive order to change by-mail voting processes for the November 3 election.
On September 14, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court "declined to allow" the U.S. Postal Service from carrying out the plan/order. So rules remain unchanged for the General Election.
If voters are still concerned about their absentee ballot, here are some things to know:
* In Waushara County, absentee ballots for the November election are already available. On Friday, September 11, the Town of Dakota mailed ballots to voters with requests on file.
* If you already know you're not going to be able to get to the polls on November 3, make a plan to vote NOW. If you're voting by-mail and haven't yet submitted your absentee application, sooner may be better than later. You can request your ballot online on the My Vote Wisconsin website at https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/Vote-Absentee-By-Mail.
* You can track your absentee ballot on the My Vote website as well, at https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/Track-My-Ballot. From this part of the website, you can get answers to the following questions:
- Has my ballot request been received or processed?
- Was my ballot sent?
- Was my returned ballot received?
- Was there a problem with my returned ballot?
